Whether it’s white, pink, or brown noise, steady background ambience can improve concentration and focus on given tasks for those with ADHD because it blocks out otherwise distracting and unwanted sounds.
At the same time, white noise is suspected to stimulate dopamine production in the brain.
Several studies have also shown that white noise improves sleep quality as well as decreases the amount of time it takes to fall asleep. This was due to the white noise’s effect of masking other unwanted sounds. This is a benefit not just for those with ADHD, but for everybody!
Children with ADHD who slept with white noise even exhibited less off-task behavior in the classroom, while white noise in the classroom led to less disruptive sleep. In other words, white noise positively affected the participants of the study even when they couldn’t hear it anymore.
